Biography: Sade Ojediran is a native of the suburbs of Chicago. It has been a lifelong dream of hers to become an attorney. Sade graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign, where she majored in Political Science and minored in Communications. While in undergrad Sade focused her free time on mentorship and becoming prepared for the law school admissions process. She was an executive board member for student groups such as CORE Mentor Program, Project Youth, and the Minority Association for Future Attorneys. In the future Sade hopes to combine her love for the law and her passion for mentorship, by concentrating in family law with a focus on juvenile issues.

Name: Lisa Mon'a Brown

Biography: Lisa Mon'a Brown is a second year law student at the University of Illinois. She recently obtained her undergraduate degree from Oberlin College in Politics and German Literature and Language. Lisa was a very active member of the Oberlin community. She served as Senior Class Vice President as well as worship leader for Oberlin Christian Fellowship. Additionally, she performed in several theater and dance productions – including Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman – while simultaneously working as a student intern in the Office of Admissions. Lisa spent the summer following her 1L year at Holland & Knight LLP in Chicago, Illinois. As a summer associate, she mainly completed projects in the realm of litigation, but also worked on transactional and pro-bono assignments. As a member of the board, Lisa desires for each prospective, incoming and current student to know that the BLSA chapter at the University of Illinois is committed to making their years at the College of Law more fruitful, more valuable and more enjoyable. She looks forward to meeting each of you and having a monumental year full of wonderful BLSA events!

Name: Marvis Barnes

Biography: Marvis Barnes is a a graduate of Florida State University (FSU). Marvis, a business management major, was a member of the FSU College of Business Golden Opportunities Mentorship Program and the Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. This past summer, he was a judicial clerk for the Circuit Court of the Sixth Judicial Circuit. He is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Name: Noel Susberry
Biography: Noel Susberry, born and raised on the south side of Chicago, graduated from Duke University with a major in political science and a minor in dance. During her first year at the University of Illinois College of Law, Noel was selected as the recipient of the 2012 Dykema Scholarship! As a part of the scholarship, she interned at Dykema Gossett, LLC, where she worked in the areas of litigation, labor and employment, and real estate. Currently, Noel serves as BLSA’s Community Service Chair and secretary of the Christian Law Students’ Association (CLSA). Her hobbies include dancing and poetry.

Name: Amber Porter

Biography: Amber Porter has a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism with an emphasis in TV-Broadcast and Investigative Reporting. She has always had a desire to uncover injustice, and a passion to help the less fortunate. Amber has had an array of internships which include working for the Southeast Louisiana Legal Services clinic, the CBS2 Investigative Unit, and non-for-profit organizations such as The Better Government Association and The Boys & Girls Club of Chicago. She is currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate degree to better aid the community as an advocate for social justice.

Name: Erin Fowler

Biography: Erin Fowler is from St. Louis, Missouri and attended college in Atlanta, Georgia at Oglethorpe University. In undergrad, she majored in Behavioral Science and Human Resource Management. Her major, along with a few internships in Human Resources and at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), inspired Erin to pursue a career in employment and labor law. This summer, Erin worked at a small Employment and Labor Firm in Chicago. In addition to BLSA, Erin is on the executive boards of CLSA and the Labor and Employment Law Society. As a 1L Coordinator, Erin hopes to make the transition to law school as smooth as possible for the incoming first-year law students.

Name: Sonthonax SaintGermain

Biography: Sonthonax SaintGermain (“Sontho”) grew up in Haiti and graduated from Florida State University receiving both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in Economics. After graduating, he worked for the State of Florida’s Department of Economic Opportunity as a labor economist and lead analyst of the “Green Job Survey.” Sontho is currently a Second year at the University of Illinois College of Law and is the Director of External Affairs and Alumni Relations of the Black Law Student Association for the year 2012-2013. His interest in the law started during his graduate studies at a presentation of federal regulatory policies and his professor’s statement that the new forefront in economics is the study of legal systems. His goals are to be involved in formulating federal regulations of industries and trade, and eventually becoming a law professor. Sontho’s personal interests are in history, economics and personal ethics. His hobbies are Cycling, Pocket Billiards (pool), Rock Climbing, Racquetball and Soccer. His favorite quote is from French fabulist Jean de la Fontaine: “Je plie, et ne romps pas.” (I bend and do not break.)


Name: Tiffany Luckett

Biography: Tiffany Luckett is a 2L at the University of Illinois College of Law. She received her bachelor’s degree in Communications and Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. During her undergraduate career, Tiffany served as a mentor to middle school students in Rantoul and a tutor with America Reads/America Counts. Tiffany continued her career of serve by joining Teach for America. She taught middle school English in St. Louis, Missouri for 2 years before coming to law school. During her 1L summer, Tiffany was a legal extern with the Los Angeles Unified School District, working with their Business Services Legal Team.  She has interests in entertainment and corporate law. As the Director of Communications, Tiffany hopes to further strengthen BLSA's visibility and communications with students in the organization, students in the College of Law, and BLSA alumni across the nation.

Name: Rachel Demmons

Biography: Rachel Demmons is a 2L at the University of Illinois College of Law. She attended undergraduate school at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. After earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs with distinction, she worked as a Small Business Account Advisor at UnitedHealthcare and studied American Sign Language before coming to the College of Law. During her 1L summer, Rachel was a legal extern at both Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, and the Richard J. Daley Center in Chicago, Illinois.  She has interests in health law and corporate law. As the Historian for BLSA, Rachel looks forward to capturing new memories and revisiting older ones.
