Name: Joyce Otuwa

Biography: Joyce Otuwa is from the south suburbs of Chicago, and a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. There she studied English Literature and minored in Spanish. She also served as Secretary and President of the Minority Association for Future Attorneys.  While an undergraduate, she was a summer intern at the Champaign Public Defender’s Office. In her first year at the College of Law, Joyce served as the 1L Representative for BLSA. She was also an active member of the Women’s Law Society, and Student Legal Relief where she visited New Orleans for pro bono relief work. During her first summer, she interned in-house at Kaplan, Inc. Her interests are in advocacy, mentorship, and the deconstruction of exclusive ideology. She is also a huge foodie.

Name: Darnell Clayborn

Biography: Darnell Clayborn is a second year student at the College of Law.  Prior to beginning law school, Darnell studied accounting and finance at the University of Central Arkansas.  Darnell also obtained his Masters in Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.  Following his first year of law school, Darnell worked as a summer associate in Dykema Gossett’s Chicago office. 

Name: Reginald Cloyd

Biography: Reginald Cloyd III is from Danville, Illinois and attended college in Lebanon, Illinois at McKendree University. He received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice. While in undergrad, Reggie excelled academically and athletically. During his first year at the University of Illinois College of Law, Reggie was selected as the recipient of the 2013 Public Interest Law Initiative Scholarship! As a part of the scholarship, he interned at Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation, where he worked in the areas of foreclosure and bankruptcy. Currently, Reggie serves as BLSA’s 1L Coordinator and treasurer of the Christian Law Students’ Association.

Biography: Chiedza is originally from the Pacific Northwest. Although she has lived all over the United States Chiedza grew up primarily in Portland, Oregon before moving to Seattle, Washington where she attended the University of Washington for undergrad. She received my Bachelor's of Arts in Sociology in 2010 and went on to work for the Social Security Administration for two years before beginning law school, at the University of Illinois College of Law, in the fall of 2012. As a 2L Chiedza has decided she is interested in practicing litigation and hopes to pursue a litigation career in Chicago or back home in Seattle, Washington. In her spare time Chiedza enjoys spending time with close friends and family, eating, and watching reality television.

Biography: Pokuaa Enin graduated from California State University, Fullerton in 2010 with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Political Science. While an undergraduate, she interned for the United States Coast Guard and the National Defense University in Washington, D.C. During her first year of law school, she volunteered at the New Orleans District Attorney’s office as a member of the Student Legal Relief. For her summer 1L job, Pokuaa was a judicial extern for a judge in a Superior Court of California in Orange County. This year, Pokuaa is serving on the Student Legal Relief board in addition to the BLSA board, and is a member of the Journal of Law, Technology, and Policy.

Name: Ryan Richardson

Biography: Ryan Richardson is a second year law student at the University of Illinois-College of Law. Becoming an attorney has always been one of her greatest aspirations. After completing her first mock trial, as a high school student, she became intrigued with legal issues concerning business corporations, intellectual property and the government. As an undergraduate, at the University of Illinois, Ryan began crafting my educational experiences early to ensure that law school would be the next step in her quest for knowledge. Accomplishing this goal by attending the College of Law only deepened her passion for practicing law. Moreover, being born and raised in Chicago, she has developed a strong attraction to the Midwest, which is eventually where she hopes to practice after graduation.

Name: Ivan Taylor

Biography: Ivan O. Taylor Jr. graduated from Northern Illinois University in 2011 with a B.A. in History and Political Science. During his undergrad, Ivan worked as a Peer Advisor for the University Honors Program and was a Resident Advisor. As a current 2L, Ivan is the BLSA Historian. He is tasked with preserving the harmony of the BLSA Office and to teach the law school about various aspects of black history and the law. Ivan intends to focus on working for the government; hopefully being nominated for a federal judgeship.
